Councilwoman Dr. Adriana Rocha Garcia currently serves as District 4
representative to City Council. During her first term, she formed part of the first
women-majority elected City Council. She currently serves as the Chair of the
Planning and Community Development Committee. Prior to being elected to City
Council, Dr. Garcia served as the Chair of the City of San Antonio’s Ethics
Review Board for nearly three years.
Dr. Garcia is a lifelong resident of San Antonio and continues to call Southwest
San Antonio home. She has a passion for working with organizations that help San
Antonio’s most underrepresented populations. Raised in a Spanish-speaking
household to parents with a first- and second-grade Mexican education, she
became the first in her family to earn a college degree.
Dr. Garcia received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of the
Incarnate Word in San Antonio (UIW). Upon graduation from Incarnate Word, she
was offered a job in the university’s Office of Public Relations and completed her
Master’s degree there. In 2004, she was in a cohort of 12 students accepted into the
University of Texas at Austin's Doctoral Advertising program, where she became
one of the first Hispanics to earn a Ph.D. in Advertising from UT’s prestigious
Moody College of Communication.
Today, Dr. Garcia is molding tomorrow’s leaders as an Assistant Marketing
Professor at Our Lady of the Lake University, where she teaches marketing in the
School of Business and Leadership and is a past recipient of the 1895
Commemorative Award for Faculty Excellence.
In her role as a public servant, Councilwoman Garcia is a model for others to
follow who strive to overcome limitations while achieving their goals through the
power of advocacy and education— serving as champion for the next generation of
female leaders in the process. Councilwoman Garcia is actively involved with the
Girls Empowerment Summit—an event that encourages young women to pursue
their interests in STEM-based areas. She personally engages with summit
participants to encourage and guide them as they learn about important topics that
affect their personal and professional development.
